Starting at the beautiful Geraniotis Hotel, the day begins with fresh energy as we set out together at 9:00 AM.

Our journey kicks off with a gentle ride through Gerani, a delightful village just moments from the start. The pace is relaxed as we wind through Palaio Gerani, where timeworn buildings hint at the area’s rich history. As we continue, the route opens up to the serene countryside, leading us to Loutraki, a picturesque stop that invites us to soak in the natural beauty of Crete.

The road meanders further to Manoliopoulo, where the charm of a traditional Cretan village is on full display. Here, the first inklings of camaraderie within the group begin to take root as we share the experience of this journey together. From Manoliopoulo, the ride becomes even more immersive as we approach Koufos, a peaceful hamlet that whispers tales of quiet rural life.

By the time we reach Alikianos, the landscape begins to shift, surrounded by olive groves and citrus trees that fill the air with their fresh fragrance. As we pedal toward Skines, the terrain starts to challenge us just enough to get our hearts pumping and spirits high. This stage is about more than just cycling—it’s about finding a rhythm, appreciating the beauty around us, and connecting with one another.

The climb to Lakkoi marks the first real test of the tour, but the views of Crete’s rugged mountains and valleys are worth every effort. At the top, the Omalos Feed Zone awaits, where we pause to rest, refuel, and relish the sense of achievement that comes from reaching this milestone together.

The return journey is filled with the joy of descending through the vibrant village of Prases, the peaceful enclave of Nea Roumata, and the charming Papadiana, where the pace naturally slows, allowing us to take in the serene surroundings. Each pedal stroke feels lighter as we glide through Ntepes and onto Zounaki, soaking in the camaraderie of the group and the beauty of the moment.

With the sea beckoning in the distance, we pass through Sirili and finally arrive at the coastal village of Maleme, where the sight of the shimmering water feels like a reward. As the day comes to a close, we return through Gerani, completing the loop at the Geraniotis Hotel, ready to unwind and reflect on a day well spent.

Today is just the beginning of our Cretan adventure, and it has set the stage perfectly for the days to come. Whether you’re here for the challenge, the scenery, or the shared experience, this first day is a warm welcome to the wonders that await.

START TIME  : 09:00

Day two of our cycling adventure takes us through one of Crete’s most dramatic landscapes: the Theriso Gorge. Today’s ride is a celebration of rugged natural beauty, cultural heritage, and the thrill of exploration as we ascend into the island’s heart before winding back to the coast.

We set off from the Geraniotis Hotel at 9:00 AM, energized by the promise of the day ahead. The route begins gently, leading us to Patellari, a small village known for its quiet charm and friendly atmosphere—a perfect place to settle into the day’s rhythm.

From here, the terrain begins to reveal more of Crete’s diverse character as we cycle toward Fournes, a village at the crossroads of tradition and modern life. The area is dotted with family-run farms and surrounded by hills that hint at the climbing to come.

The ride continues to Meskla, a village that feels hidden within the lush, verdant foothills of the White Mountains. Meskla’s secluded setting offers a refreshing change from the coastal scenery of yesterday’s stage, with its dense vegetation and babbling brooks creating a serene backdrop.

As we ascend toward Zourba, the views open up, showcasing Crete’s rugged terrain in all its glory. This charming village, perched along the way, offers a glimpse into the island’s rural lifestyle, with stone houses and a timeless atmosphere. The climb rewards us as we reach Theriso, a historic village nestled at the mouth of the gorge.

The highlight of the day, Theriso Gorge, is a spectacle of towering cliffs, dramatic rock formations, and a road that winds its way through this natural masterpiece. The crisp mountain air and the sound of rustling leaves accompany us as we cycle through this iconic location. At the Theriso Feed Zone, we pause to take in the surroundings, refuel, and reflect on the history of the village, which played a pivotal role in Crete’s independence movement.

The descent brings a sense of freedom as we leave the gorge and make our way toward Agia, a vibrant village that offers a contrast to the ruggedness of the gorge with its welcoming streets and nearby lake—a hidden gem in Crete’s inland region.

Revisiting Patellari on the return journey feels like reconnecting with an old friend as we approach the familiar roads leading back to the Geraniotis Hotel. By the time we arrive, the day’s challenges and triumphs have brought the group closer, adding to the growing bond among riders.

With a total ascent of 811 meters, today’s ride is as invigorating as it is inspiring. From the quiet villages to the breathtaking gorge, Stage Two offers a rich tapestry of Crete’s diverse landscapes, setting the tone for the adventures still to come.

STAGE 3

TUESDAY 23/9/2025
GYRO KANDANOS
100,5 Km     +1.438 m
START TIME  : 09:00

Our third day of cycling takes us further into Crete’s soul as we journey from the coast to the historic village of Kandanos and back. This stage, covering over 100 kilometers, blends scenic coastal views, mountain climbs, and the timeless charm of Crete’s countryside. It’s a day to test your endurance while immersing yourself in the island’s quieter, untouched corners.

Starting from the Geraniotis Hotel at 9:00 AM, we begin with a familiar path through Gerani and onward to Maleme, a village that carries echoes of Crete’s wartime history with its World War II landmarks and the nearby German War Cemetery. Here, the coastal breeze keeps spirits high as we ease into the ride.

As we approach Tavronitis, the sparkling sea remains in view, and the village’s tranquil streets offer a moment to appreciate Crete’s slower pace of life. Passing through Rapaniana and Skoutelonas, the route begins to turn inland, leaving the coastline behind and ushering us into the rolling hills and fertile plains of western Crete.

The villages of Minothiana, Gribiliana, and Spilia greet us next, each offering a glimpse of local life where traditional homes and small churches dot the landscape. In Drakona, a village perched amidst lush surroundings, we feel the first hints of the climb ahead. The route gradually ascends as we pass Episkopi, where the views begin to open up, offering sweeping vistas of olive-studded hillsides.

The challenge of the day intensifies as we reach Kamara and Armenochori, villages that seem to blend seamlessly with the rugged terrain. By the time we arrive at Topolia, the route begins to reward us with awe-inspiring views of the surrounding gorges and valleys. Cycling through Koutsomatathos and Strovles, the road is lined with wildflowers and rocky outcrops, making it one of the most scenic stretches of the stage.

Our destination, Kandanos, marks the midpoint of the ride. This historic village, renowned for its resilience during World War II, is a testament to Cretan determination and pride. At the Kandanos Feed Zone, we rest amidst a backdrop of stone-paved streets and traditional tavernas, soaking in the village’s storied atmosphere.

The return journey begins with a descent through the charming village of Floria, followed by Kakopetros and Bromonero, where the air is crisp and filled with the scents of pine and thyme. These mountain villages offer a peaceful rhythm, allowing you to savor the joy of cycling in Crete’s remote areas.

As the terrain flattens, we pass through Voukoles, a vibrant village with lively squares, and continue to Koulkouthiana and Neratzia, where time seems to stand still. With the coastline once again in view, we re-enter Tavronitis and cycle back to Maleme, retracing our steps to the Geraniotis Hotel.

Today’s ride is an exploration of contrasts—from the tranquil coast to the dramatic mountains, and from ancient villages to modern memories. With a total ascent of 811 meters, it’s a stage that combines physical challenge with rich rewards, deepening our connection to Crete’s landscapes and its enduring spirit.
